Portugal's national public broadcaster RTP ended its last fiscal year with profits of €15.1 million, the first time in the last twenty years that it has not been in debt.

The 2010 figure contrasts with the €24.2 million loss for the end of 2009 and have been attributed mainly to the process of financial restructuring of RTP initiated in 2003. RTP also plans to improve results by the end of the present year by applying the strategy of reducing the salaries of its employees.

All in all though RTP has becomes of Europe’s few profitable national public TV companies.
