International news operator Al Jazeera is launching a news hub in the Balkans as it looks to boost its profile in the region.

The Qatar-based company is launching Al Jazeera Balkans, which will broadcast across the region in Serbo-Croat, targeting Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia and Montenegro. It will invest around US$20 million (14 million) in the project, which will employ around 60 journalists and cameramen. It hopes to reach around 20 million pay TV subscribers across the six former Yugoslav republics.
