Prisa TV's Canal+ Dos signed up only 950 subscribers in Spain in its first four months of operation and reached fewer than a thousand clients in this time according to latest report by the country’s Telecommunication Market Commission (CMT).
With such a subscriber total, the channel can only cover the costs of broadcast. Canal+ Dos transmit on pay-DTT. By way of contrast, Gol TV from Mediapro signed up 70,000 new subscribers in Q4 2010, reaching out to a total of 346, 712 clients.
Canal+ Dos was launched last August to replace the signal of Canal+ music channel 40 Latino. Its programming is based on films, TV series and documentaries.
