Following recent audience failures—mostly those of reality formats Carré Viiip from Endemol France and Family explorer(ALP/Zodiak Media Group)—TF1 has named Jean-François Lancelier as new Programme and Production Director.
Lancelier will replace Laurent Storch who will keep supervising the French drama department as well as cinema strategy and audiovisual rights. Jean-François Lancelier will combine his new job with his former one, as MD in charge of broadcasting, for free to air TF1, NT1 and TMC and pay-TV channels to the exception of LCI and Eurosport.
In doing so, CEO Nonce Paolini has decided to work with a real alter ego and number two MD at the head of the group.
Because of audience apathy, controversial show Carré Viiip was cancelled at the end of March two weeks after its launch, while current format Family Explorer doesn’t seem to have attracted viewers either.
For a long time, TF1 has been a champion for event retransmissions. But last week, viewers also preferred watching the British wedding coverage from France Télévisions. France 2 garnered a 41.8 % audience share with 5 million viewers and TF1 far behind with a 29.9 % audience share.
According to Médiamétrie’s latest rating survey, TF1’s audience share fell to 23.5 % in the week from April 25 to 1 May, while the March average was 24.5% but 25.1% in March 2010.
