Leading US cable MSO Comcastís Media Centre subsidiary has rebuilt an origination and playout facility to handle all live sports and Pay-Per-View (PPV) content for subscription entertainment provider iN DEMAND.
The new facility will be used to offer a wide range of PPV and digital out-of-market sports subscription television programming, including first-run movies, out-of-market major sports league packages, championship sports events and concerts.
Owned by Comcast iN DEMAND Holdings, Cox Communications Holdings and Time Warner Entertainment, iN DEMAND creates and delivers programming through cable PPV,). Such programming includes films, boxing and mixed martial arts events and the digital out-of-market subscription professional sports packages for MLB, the NBA, the NHL and MLS. The company also offers a range of VOD products including first-run movies.
The new facility at the CMC uses the latest technology to support iN DEMANDís expanding requirements for HD television programming standards and consolidates the operational processes for sports and PPV programming into one master control operation. The new control room also provides on-screen features such as sports statistics, event replays, and personalised messaging.
As part of a recently renewed content services agreement, the CMC provides iN DEMAND with an end-to-end content management solution for its channels, including multi-channel network origination, traffic management, live sports event integration, and transmission. Each year, the CMC supports iN DEMANDís delivery of nearly 7,000 live sports feeds, representing more than 20,000 hours of sports package content and PPV events in HD, SD, and increasingly 3D, either live and recorded.
Live event capabilities include live commercial insertion, client graphic creation and manipulation, branding, facilitation between remote sites, one-on-one coverage and monitoring, and time-delayed and/or immediate replay of live media.
