Only a week after a fellow analyst came to almost the exact same conclusion, high tech market intelligence firm In-Stat is predicting 500% growth for the 3D market in 2011.
In its investigation of the 3D market, iSuppli cited a pronounced change in marketing and promotion strategies as well as price declines and an increasing availability of 3D content as an engine for growth.
For its part, In-Stat remarks that 3D is now enjoying a resurgence of interest from Hollywood studios who are banking on the fact that 3D viewing is possible in the home. Indeed, In-Stat says that 3D content providers need not worry that consumers will be unable to view their content
The upshot, predicts In-Stat in its 3D Enabled TV Sets on the RiseWorldwide report is that the 3D TV set market will grow dramatically through 2011 by almost 500%. The analyst expects Europe to boast the most 3D TV unit shipments at just over 7 million by the end of 2011. Looking forward it believes that households with 3D TV sets will go past the 300 million mark in 2015 by which time Asia/Pacific will have the largest share of 3D TV unit shipments at 32%.
Commented In-Stat Research Director Michelle Abraham: "Over the next few years, a greater percentage of large-screen TV sets will ship with the 3D feature...We expect 100% of all 40-inch and above DTV sets will eventually be 3D enabled. This will not only cause shipments of 3D TV sets to increase, but will also grow the number of households worldwide with 3D TV sets.”
