The German media authorities have granted the planned TV channels spiegel.tv and OneClimate.TV broadcast licences valid for 10 years each.
Both channels are based in Hamburg and want to distribute their programmes on the internet with OneClimate.TV also seeking cable carriage.
spiegel.tv plans a 24 hour live-stream covering the issues of politics, current affairs, society, science and technology. The channel will mainly show in-house productions compiled by Spiegel TV, Spiegel Online and spiegel.tv's own editorial team. The website will contain additional channels with on-demand offerings on further formats and topics such as traveling or cars.
OneClimate.TV wants to offer information on climate issues 24 hours per day from a global perspective based on the latest results of scientific research. The channel will initially be available on the internet as well as on Kabel Deutschland's cable network.
