Austria's public broadcaster ORF will close down its multimedia teletext service ORF OK MultiText due to insufficient viewer interest in June.
The technical standard MHP is outdated and remains only used on a large scale in Italy, reports Austrian newspaper "Der Standard" with reference to ORF circles.
The vacated capacity on DTT will be used to improve the picture quality of TV channel ORF 2. The initiative to scrap OK MultiText, which was launched in 2006, came from ORF's technical services subsidiary ORS, writes the paper, adding that ORF's general director Alexander Wrabetz has already approved the move.
Instead of MHP, ORS now focuses on the new multimedia standard HbbTV to make internet services available the TV screen.
