Germany's third-largest cable operator Kabel BW has won 98,000 new subscribers for its pay-TV packages during the past 12 months: On 31 March 2011, the company had a total of 308,000 pay-TV customers - an increase by 47% compared with one year ago.

According to Kabel BW, the main reasons for the growth were the rising interest in HDTV, its own pay-TV bouquet "Mein TV" ("My TV") and the partnership with pay-TV broadcaster Sky Deutschland through which customers are able to sign up for telephony and internet offerings from Kabel BW bundled with Sky subscriptions.

The number of internet and telephony customers grew by 147,000 to 705,000 - an increase by 26%. In the first quarter 2011 alone, 41,000 new internet and telephony contracts were sold.

The total customer number rose by 2.2% to 2.37 million. Around 30% of Kabel BW's cable TV customers have now signed up for the company's internet and telephony services as well.

The Heidelberg-based company is currently in the process of being taken over by US media concern Liberty Global, but regulatory approval is still required for the deal to take place.
