Quoting on TV and radio the names of social networks Twitter and Facebook is now considered an illegal ad, French TV regulator CSA has decided.
The regulatory body explained in a statement: it has been seized by a TV channel about the conformity with the rules on advertisement, of quoting and linking a show to its Twitter and Facebook pages.”
The CSA also considers that viewers and listeners can be oriented towards the homepage of a show on social networks. When the name of the social network is not quoted it is seen as just a piece of information. When the name is specifically quoted, it is illegal advertising and contrary to the 1992 decree that bans clandestine advertising.
