In keeping with its programme of technology supporting TV everywhere, EchoStar Technologies has announced plans to unveil a new technology 'ecosystem' designed exclusively for mid-sized and independent cable TV operators.

In keeping with its other video products, most notably the Sling Media products, EchoStar says that its new Aria platform will offer cloud-based TV Everywhere, and an interactive HD program guide, among other attributes.

These include multi-screen any location services; graphical user interfaces with skins branded for the local cable TV operators; universal search across all of a consumer's authorised content, including linear over-the-top (OTT) services; remote DVR; and HD VOD using adaptive bit-rate streaming.

Aria will run in concert new EchoStar SD, HD or SlingLoaded set-top boxes that will be launched around the same time.

EchoStar is confident that the overall package will enable mid-sized cable operators to gain an edge against even the most competitive providers by using their current cable plant to economically deliver the most popular TV and broadband services.

"Smaller cable operators [will be able to] deliver the premium television features and services most in demand by consumers today without the need to invest in new facilities, servers, data centres and additional engineering staff," assured Mark Jackson, president of EchoStar Technologies.
