Technicolor is dipping a toe in the home automation and management waters by launching a home control and security edition for its video-enabled MediaTouch tablet.

Cable MSOs and telcos can deploy the tablets to support integrated home control, security and energy management offers within the triple play, to capitalise on the connected home opportunity.

The new MediaTouch Home Control and Security Tablet is an all-in-one security enabled tablet, combining an integrated chipset, increased RAM and flash memory designed specifically for the connected home. MediaTouch incorporates a home security panel, 7" touchscreen and media management features. Connectivity-wise it supports EDGE cellular, 802.11n Wi-Fi and ZigBee.

The solution was developed in partnership with iControl Network's OpenHome software platform. Integrated with iControl, MediaTouch will enable operators to offer interactive 'life safety and lifestyle services' to their customers, allowing them to control and connect to their homes via the Web and other mobile devices.

"Our partnership with iControl offers a differentiated benefit to our service provider customers by enabling them to deliver an optimised broadband home management experience utilizing a next-generation solution with best-in-class hardware for their subscribers," said Vince Pizzica, president of Technicolorís Digital Delivery Group.
