Eurosport’s audience ratings for the 2011 Roland Garros French Open Tennis broke all-time audience records.
The pan-European sport channel also reported strong audience increases across Europe and reached 56 million different viewers during the two weeks period of the competition on both Eurosport and Eurosport 2.
The channel also broke live average audience with 1,062,000 viewers during the whole tournament, an increase of 18% compared with 2010.
The men’s final between Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal generated an average audience of 2.653 million viewers, up 40% on the match a year earlier.
For the two weeks period of the tennis open, Eurosport and Eurosport 2 featured 305 hours of broadcast including 191 hours of live action.
Eurosport also claimed “excellent performances” for its exclusive on-site prime-time magazine hosted by Mats Wilander “Game, Set and Mats”. The programme reached 19 million different viewers on Eurosport and Eurosport 2.
Eurosport has enjoyed a strong 2011 drawing impressive TV audiences for many of the big international sporting events of the first six months of the year including the Wintersports season with 114 million different viewers and the Giro d’Italia Cycling Tour of Italy with 33 million different viewers.
