Dutch incumbent telecoms operator KPN puts 10 HD channels in the basic tier of its IPTV service Interactieve Televisie, but only for FTTH subscribers on fibre.
The move emphasises the advantages of fibre to the home connections swith regards to the quality of the IPTV signals. As part of the upgraded service, KPN will also add more HD titles to its VOD catalogue.
The basic tier for FTTH now comprises all main public and private channels, Nederland 1 HD, Nederland 2 HD, Nederland 3 HD, RTL 4 HD, RTL 5 HD, RTL 7 HD, RTL 8 HD, SBS 6 HD, Net 5 HD and Veronica HD.
In order to promote the IPTV service, KPN has launched a promotional channel on its Digitenne DTT platform.
Cable operator Ziggo is also beefing up the HD offer in its basic tier in an attempt to male HD the default means of watching TV.
