As the first German news channel, N24 will broadcast its programmes in high-definition from 1 July 2011. N24 HD will be available via satellite exclusively on HDTV platform HD+ on Astra (19.2° East). The agreement has now been signed, satellite operator SES Astra announced in Luxembourg.
After Nickelodeon HD/Comedy Central HD, which have joined the platform on 1 June 2011, N24 HD will be the 10th channel at HD+. Among the programmes to be offered in native HD will be documentaries such as "Home - Geschichte einer Reise", "Geheimnisse des Weltalls" and "9/11 CSI - Ermittlungen am Ground Zero".
German commercial free-to-air broadcasters like RTL, Sat.1 and ProSieben distribute their services on HD+ in high resolution. Reception is free-of-charge in the first 12 months. If viewers want to continue receiving the channels, they have to pay €50 per year afterwards.
