GVT moves forward with Pay-TV programmers

The Brazilian telecommunications company GVT, which is planning to launch Pay-TV this year, would have closed most agreement s with the programmers who will form part of the lineup, though the company would be still negotiating with Globosat. GVT will step in the market with an hybrid IPTV/DTH offer.

According to Teletime, a source close to such negotiations, about the 90% of channels have already been confirmed, though which specific channels will be involved has not been disclosed yet. The information disclosed by the programming market state that the company would be still negotiating with Globosat, whose channels are very popular in Brazil. "It is the type of content people want, but is also the most expensive one", Ricardo Sanfelice, GVT Marketing and Product Director, stated regarding Globosat's channels last year.

The company has closed an agreement with Intelsat for its DTH, by means of which USD 150 million was invested. The idea is to offer all its subscribers HD services, in addition to catch up TV and VOD through the STB integrated IP connection. According to the information disclosed in its web page, Globosat's channel offer reaches 34 channels (25 SD channels, 8 HD channels and an international channel), of different genders such as movies, news, sports, series and documentals.
