Telecinco's Mediaset España has started the country's first HbbTV broadcasts allowing viewers to access on their TV set additional information on the internet plus access to social networks.
This is a pilot project and it is open to all the sector's protagonists who are interested in it. In this first phase the project will set up the basis of compatibility with manufacturers of TV sets. It will look at standard of access to this new technology, which combines the broadcast signal with that of the broadband one with regards to TV watching.
Once this period is complete, Mediaset España and Telefónica will enrich the offering by widening a range of contents and over the top (OTT) technology will be imposed over the Telefónica's pay-TV services such as the Movistar Imagenio DSL-pay TV operator or its VOD service called Movistar Videoclub and its IPTV service namely Terra TV.
The HbbTV is back by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and it is based on three standards, CE-HTML, Open IPTV Forum and DVB. In the future, users having a decoder or a TV set under the HbbTV standard will have this added value offering, adapted to the new TV ways of consumption.
