The German media authorities have told RTL and Sat.1 they disapprove of split-screen advertising, which blends in with programming. In three instances the two broadcaster violated advertising rules.

The Kommission für Zulassung und Aufsicht (ZAK) named three examples of unauthorised split-screen advertising in the RTL series Gute Zeiten, schlechte Zeiten and Alles was zählt in November 2010, as well as Anna und die Liebe in December 2010 on Sat.1.

In these instances the advertising was blended in with the actual programming resulting in the fact that there was no distinction between the actual programme and advertising.

The regulator did not issue any fines to the broadcaster, just a warning.
