The Latvian cable operator IZZI plans to invest 10 million by the end of this year on upgrading its infrastructure and developing new services.

It has also set itself the goal of having a modern telecommunications network in place in the capital, Riga, by 2012.

IZZI already has a 400km-long fibre-optic network in the city.

IZZI in addition plans to launch a new service named IZZI Prime this July that will effectively be a home telecommunications network.

IZZI is one of the largest cable operators in Latvia, its nearest rival being Baltkom, which underwent a change of ownership in May.

The two were expected to merge earlier this year but failed to reach an agreement.
