Telecinco’s Spanish subsidiary’s merger with Mediaset’s Cuatro has been "very positive", according to Paolo Vasile, Mediaset España's CEO.

The merger has allowed Mediaset España to fulfil its objectives and at the same time better address the advertising downturn in the TV sector, over the last six months.

Also this merger has inspired Telecinco’s main competitor Grupo Planeta's Antena 3 to announce its own merger with Mediapro's laSexta, possibly in Autumn.

On the other hand Paolo Vasile underlined the merger with Cuatro has caused Telecinco to use the policy of 'scale economies' and 'share libraries' of TV series and films, as well as to apply the 'cost holding' policy implemented by the company which has made this first half of the year less bad than in general.

"With this crisis it is difficult to have better results' Paolo Vasile added. And with regard to Telecinco's main competitor Antena 3, the executive forecast it will merge with another broadcaster, not wanting to specify with whom.
