The Slovak public broadcaster RTVS’ sports-oriented channel STV3 has officially ceased transmissions, with its contracted and licensed programming being moved to the first and second channels.

Quoted in Strategie, RTVS programme director Lubos Machaj said that the channel could be re-launched in 2012 or 2013, preferably as a purely sports service, should economic conditions improve.

RTVS, which was formed by the merger of STV and its radio counterpart at the beginning of this year, expects to have a shortfall of €5.39 million in this year’s budget.

Despite implementing savings, it has asked for an additional €45 million from the state budget.
