Russia’s AFK Sistema is understood to be close to acquiring Moskovya, a regional TV company that operates the 3rd channel in Moscow and Moscow region.

According to Vedomosti, Sistema applied to the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) in May for permission to buy 100% of Moskovya, which is currently owned by Kvirin (56%), Sobstvennik and Altima (22% each) and this has apparently been granted.

The 3rd channel broadcasts for three hours a day on the same frequency as that used by TV Center, which is owned by the Moscow government.

There is now speculation that Sistema may seek to also acquire TV Center.
