Deutsche Telekom wants to get football fans interactively involved into its Bundesliga pay-TV service "LIGA total!" in the upcoming new season for the first time.
"We want to boost our offer, for example by integrating fans' opinions," the telco's sports marketing director Henning Stiegenroth told German business newspaper "Handelsblatt".
Through IPTV platform Entertain or via mobile phone viewers will be able to get in touch with each other during live match coverage and, for example, take part in surveys. Stiegenroth left it open whether Telekom would also offer sports betting or online games: "These are areas about which one could think about."
The move will further heat up competition with pay-TV broadcaster Sky: "We want to be closer to the fan than Sky," said Stiegenroth.
After HSV and Borussia Dortmund, Telekom also wants to launch TV channels for fans of other big Bundesliga football clubs.
"LIGA total!" is currently used by a total of 250,000 subscribers via Entertain and mobile phone, revealed Stigenrot.
