As it endeavours to round out its online video service, LOVEFiLM has signed a five-year content deal with Entertainment One UK (eOne) to give subscribers exclusive access to the independent film distributor's portfolio of movies.
Acquired by Amazon in February 2011, LOVEFiLM is busily trying to develop a strong online streaming video content portfolio and already has deals in place with Disney, Icon, Lionsgate, MGM, Optimum and Warner Bros.
The new deal with eOne is described by Alex Hamilton, Director of Film at Entertainment One, as a landmark deal for both parties. eOne's new release catalogue will be exclusively available for UK LOVEFiLM members who subscribe to any of their premium packages which offer a streaming option and means that it will be able to offer hit films such as The Twilight Saga phenomenon, The Three Musketeers in 3D and The Ides of March.
LOVEFiLM users will be able to watch all of eOne's new and future movies instantly on its Watch Online service through the LOVEFiLM Player, either on the PC, via in-home connected TV devices, or on the PlayStation3.
Commented LOVEFiLM CEO Simon Calver: "Content producers and distributors are increasingly choosing to make LOVEFiLM the home for their content in the UK…Offering eOne's excellent catalogue and great new films exclusively to LOVEFiLM's customers is exciting and eOne are an ideal partner. This is in line with our strategy of LOVEFiLM having the best content available across many different devices and I am so excited that LOVEFiLM will be the only place that film fans can watch movies such as The Twilight Saga: Eclipse from now on at no extra cost to their premium subscription."
