Online video management and publishing company thePlatform has finalised the senior management team that will endeavour to expound the company’s operation in Europe.
The new European management team, spearheaded by General Manager Simon McGrath aims to announce major customer wins, replicating the North American success of the Comcast subsidary's mpx cloud-based video management system which sees use in online and mobile video publishing. In certain key cases acts as a central cloud-located logistics hub for managing TV streams be they live TV or video-on-demand (VOD) etc.
As well as for its parent company, thePlatform currently provides online video management services to programmers, leading media companies, and TV service providers in North America, including AT&T, Boxee, DivX, GoTV MobiTV, MobiTV, Roku, Tine Warner Cable, Cablevision, Rogers, News Corp, Sky, Telstra, Fox and NBC.
Speaking to Rapid TV News, McGrath said that the European arm would focus on delivering and maintaining quality of service and how that matters for customers. He revealed that the company was holding conversations with a number of leading European media companies and broadcasters and expected to announce a win by the end of Q3 2011.
thePlatform also confirmed that it would develop its multi-screen video platform deal with Alcatel-Lucent in June 2011 to enable TV providers take any video to any screen, anywhere.
The multi-screen content delivery network is based on Alcatel-Lucent’s Velocix digital media delivery platform and is designed to enable service providers to build and operate their own dedicated CDN as an alternative to shared third-party CDNs. It is also attributed with improving video quality and offering faster file downloads at significantly reduced costs.
Both companies offer subscriber management services to maintain a detailed subscriber profile for each customer, supporting authentication, payments, preferences, audience measurement, advertising, and customer service needs.
