Despite some heavy promotion, growth for Prisa TV's pay-TV DTT-based channel Canal+ Dos slowed considerably over last quarter ending 31 March 2011.
The channel, which offers the same films and TV series as Canal+, as well as airing repeats of documentaries, has added only 294 new clients, bringing the total to 1,244. This subscriber figure is disappointing considering that since its launch in 1990, the Canal+ brand has become well known among Spanish viewers.
One contributing factor to this failure is that the channel, which is replacing 40 Latino on the DTT for a three-year period, lost some coverage when it recently changed frequency due to government plans to extend mobile services by 2015 within the 'digital dividend'.
Spain's pay-DTT services are provided by Canal+ as well as by Sony's AXN and Mediapro's sports channel Gol TV.
