The BBC's interactive service iPlayer, currently only available in the UK, is soon to be available internationally, including in Portugal.
The video-on-demand (VOD) service for Apple's iPad users will initially be available in some 11 countries. However, the international BBC VOD service will be quite different to that in the UK, despite having the same commercial name. Instead of enabling access to the content of live TV and radio channels or programmes that have been shown over the last week, the service will be based on 'the best of' of current and old BBC programmes. These will include such favourites as Fawlty Towers, Only Fools and Horses and Sherlock.
Those who want to access to the global application will have to opt for a monthly or yearly subscription, according to Tele Satellite. They will also have access to an application not available in the UK, that is the ability to download contents to watch offline
