German TV group ProSiebenSat.1 will completely close down its quiz channel 9Live on 9 August 2011.

The company has cited the channel’s decreasing turnover in the past years as the reason for the shut down. On 31 May 2011, 9Live terminated its live TV shows, and since this time has only screened repeats of TV series. On many cable networks and via DTT, ProSiebenSat.1’s women’s channel has subsequently taken over the slots of 9Live.

9Live was mainly financed through the participation of its viewers in call-TV shows through premium phone numbers. However, it was hit by decreasing income following the implementation of stricter rules for call-TV shows by media authorities. 9Live had to pay fines several times after the authorities detected that the channel wasn’t fully obeying these new rules.
