German pay-TV broadcaster Sky Deutschland will launch video-on-demand service (VOD) Sky Anytime on 23 August 2011.

Subscribers will be able to watch selected movies from their movie packages by pressing a button on the remote control of the HD receiver Sky+.

The titles, which are mostly offered in high-definition, are played out from the hard-disk of Sky+, with new content being sent to the boxes overnight each night. An internet connection is not required. In August and September the Sky Anytime line-up will include movies such as Knight and Day, The Social Network, The Book of Eli, Salt, Inception, From Paris with Love and The Expendables.

Sky Anytime, which also provides access to premium VOD service Sky Select, will be complemented by entertainment and sports programmes in future. The service will initially be available to DTH satellite subscribers in Germany and Austria, with cable households to follow shortly thereafter.
