Two international channels from TV5 of the Philippines are now available across the Middle East and North Africa, thanks to a tie up between the broadcaster’s affiliate, and satellite TV platform Orbit Showtime Network (OSN).
The new channels, Kapatid TV5 and Aksyon TV International, provide a mix of entertainment, news sport and information – and include among their schedules programmes such as Face to Face, Wil Time Bigtime, Babaeng Hampaslupa, Juicy, Paparazzi, Talentadong Pinoy, Wow Mali, Aksyon, Aksyon Journalismo, Andar ng mga Balita, Tutok Tulfo, Wanted, and Dokumentado.
“We are very happy to welcome Kapatid TV5 and Aksyon TV International to the OSN platform,” said David Butorac, CEO of pay-TV operator OSN. “The entry of these two premium Filipino channels further cements our drive to provide the best Philippine news and entertainment to our Filipino subscribers in the Middle East, North Africa and Europe" he added.
The TV5 affiliate, Pilipinas Global Network (PGN), is based in the British Virgin Islands and is 60% owned by Philippines telco PLDT, and 40% by ABC Development Corporation – which runs the terrestrial station TV5. PGN is exclusively responsible for the syndication of the channels to broadcasters around the world.
“Our vision is to build a global community of subscribers who wish to remain connected with their Filipino roots. We shall provide our global Kapatids a bundle of services that will bring them even closer to their loved ones back home,” said Claro P. Carmelo Ramirez, president of PGN.
Following the expansion into the Arab world – which hosts a large expatriate Filipino population - the company says it is also looking to take the two channels to viewers across Asia and North America.
