In a further flurry of football frenzy in Spain, laSexta's producer Mediapro has launched football channel Abono Fútbol in response to Prisa TV's new soccer launching Canal+ Liga 2.

Just as Canal+ Liga 2 was unveiled to offer the five football matches Canal+'s subscribers could only see on Digital+'s PPV service, Mediapro has retaliated with its own solution: Abono Fútbol, addressed to the rest of Spain's operators.

The reorganisation of the hour times of the League football matches has happened to pave the way for the creation of new channels.

From Saturday 20 August, the new channel will be running with the matches of the Spanish, English, Argentinean and Italian leagues. This new channel will contain the four League matches neither Gol TV, Canal+ or even laSexta offer.

On the other hand the new channel will be an addition to Gol TV and it will be commercialized together with it.

So far the only one Spanish pay-TV operator having shown an interest for Abono Fútbol is Northern cable TV operator Telecable although the country's main cable operator Ono could also go for it.
