German news channel n-tv looks set to reach financial break-even sooner than planned according to an interview by managing director Hans Demmel.
Speaking to the German financial newspaper Handelsblatt, the executive didn't say, however, when this would be the case. In the view of industry insiders it is still open whether the Cologne-based broadcaster will reach the profit zone this year.
The reason for the accelerated growth is mainly the increasing viewer interest in economic and financial issues due to the recent turbulences. "The question asked by many people how the economy will now develop also brings us new viewers," said Demmel. "We therefore compile more descriptive reports explaining the complex economic coherences to viewers."
The channel, which is part of currently reaches an average audience market share of 1.1% with 1.3% among the 14-49 age group. Last year, the market share was 0.9% and 1.0% in the young target group.
