Samir M Abdulhadi has been appointed chairman of Panther Media Group, owner of Orbit Showtime Network (OSN), the pay-TV platform which spans the Middle East and North Africa.
The two year tenure, which begins this month, sees Mr Abdulhadi replace Faisal Al Ayyar as chairman of the media company which is co-owned by Orbit Group (part of the Riyadh based Mawarid Group) and the Kuwait-based conglomerate KIPCO.
“I am honored to have been appointed chairman,” said Samir Abdulhadi. “ I look forward to working with the board and management as we continue to grow the MENA pay TV market and to ramp up our market strategy.”
Samir Abdulhadi is currently president and chief executive of Orbit Group, as well as vice chairman of Saudi Chemical Company and a member of the Executive and Compensation Committees. He is also chairman of the Board of Meed Holding, and chairman of Noorsat WWL.
He will be supported by vice chairman Pinak Maitra and chief executive officer David Butorac in growing the reach of OSN – the Dubai-based satellite TV network which emerged following the tie up between Orbit and Showtime Arabia in July 2009.
OSN currently provides 85 channels of Arabic, western and Filipino content – with exclusive rights from major studios such as Warner Brothers, Paramount, Fox, Disney, Sony, MGM, Universal and Dreamworks.
