Telefónica and Prisa TV (formerly Sogecable) have signed an agreement for the latter to distribute within Spain its premium channel Canal+ to the former's DSL pay-TV operator Movistar Imagenio.

The premium channel has begun already and Telefónica's pay-TV operator Movistar Imagenio will also include in its sporting offering the new Mediapro's football channel Abono Fútbol, born to complete the company's soccer pay-TV channel Gol TV.

Abono Fútbol was recently inaugurated to compete directly with Prisa TV's Canal+Liga 2 channel which will include more Spanish football from La Liga.

As 'Rapid TV News' recently reported Abono Fútbol will grab Prisa TV's satellite pay-TV operator Digital+'s pay-per-view football matches and package them within an interesting offering. So it will offer some of the Spanish football League most popular soccer matches as well as other ones from the UEFA Europe and other from the best international soccer leagues such as the English Premier League, Italy’s Serie A, the German Bundesliga and the Brazilian League.

But this is not the first time Canal+ gets distributed outside Digital+. A year ago Prisa TV launched a new distribution strategy based on distributing its premium channel within other pay-TV operators although they are Digital+'s competitors such as Ono or the Northern regional Telecable.
