Sneijder: Has confirmed he is staying at Inter Milan
    WESLEY SNEIJDER CONFIRMS INTER STAY

Wesley Sneijder has confirmed he is staying at Inter Milan ahead of the close of the summer transfer window.
The Holland international has been heavily linked with a move to Premier League champions Manchester United.
The talented 27-year-old previously admitted he would be open to joining The Red Devils while a number of United stars stated he would be a perfect fit at Old Trafford.
Regardless of the speculation a fee was never agreed between the clubs and now Sneijder has confirmed he will be staying with Inter.
The former Real Madrid and Ajax man admits that anything is possible in football, but believes there is not enough time for a transfer to materialise.
"I'm staying at Inter. I don't think I'll leave at this moment of market," Sneijder told Sender Nos.
"Manchester United? Anything is possible in football, but I don't think this time something will happen.
"I know that if I were to leave it would have be for the right price, Inter was clear about that. But I have not spoken formally with the two Manchester clubs."

    Santos: Set for Arsenal switch
    GUNNERS CLOSE ON ANDRE SANTOS

Arsenal are understood to be close to finalising a deal for Brazil international Andre Santos.
Left-back Santos is set to arrive from Fenerbahce in a deal worth just over 6million.
The 28-year-old has over 20 caps for Brazil, and is now believed to be in London ahead of completing a deal to the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal are in need of cover at left back having sold Gael Clichy to Manchester City earlier in the summer, and now also allowing Armand Traore to talk with Queens Park Rangers.
It is believed that Arsenal could complete a deals for Santos and Monaco striker Park Chu-young on Tuesday.

Hargreaves: A free agent after his release from Man United
    SPURS TARGET HARGREAVES - REPORT

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp is reported to be ready to offer Owen Hargreaves a short-term deal.
The England midfielder is available on a free transfer after he was released by Manchester United in the summer following an injury-ravaged spell at Old Trafford.
The 30-year-old recently posted a series of videos on YouTube in a bid to prove his fitness to potential new employers, and Redknapp is believed to be interested in the former Bayern Munich star.
Hargreaves has attracted interest from West Brom and Leicester, but White Hart Lane now appears to be his destination as Redknapp deals with injuries and departures.
Sandro is recovering from knee surgery, while Jermaine Jenas and Tom Huddlestone have spent more time in the treatment room than on the pitch so far this season.
And with Wilson Palacios set to move to Stoke and the Luka Modric saga rumbling on, Redknapp could be forced to take a risk with the injury-prone England star.

    Luka Modric: Future uncertain
    KING WANTS MODRIC RESOLUTION

Ledley King believes the uncertainty surrounding Luka Modric's future has affected Tottenham's start to the season.
Modric has been at the centre of a summer-long tussle between Spurs and Chelsea, who are determined to land the player despite having bids of 22million and 27million rejected.
Spurs continue to insist that they will not sell the Croatian, but Chelsea will be encouraged by Modric's plea to Harry Redknapp not to be selected for Sunday's 5-1 defeat to Manchester City, and could return with a new bid before Wednesday night's transfer deadline.
King has seen this situation unfold before and is aware of the effect that a protracted transfer saga can have on a team.
In 2008 the club captain watched on in frustration as his team lost star striker Dimitar Berbatov to Manchester United on deadline day after a summer of speculation about the Bulgarian.
That season Spurs did not win a Barclays Premier League match until the end of October. Spurs have lost both of their opening games of this campaign - albeit against Manchester United and City - and King fears worse results could come if the speculation over Modric's future continues.
"It's been ongoing for the whole of the summer," he told Sky Sports News. "As players we want him to stay, he's a great lad.
"The sooner it's done, either way, the better. I don't think it (the speculation) helps at the end of the day.
"We've had this issue before with Berbatov. It was a similar start for us then.
"I don't think it helps in any way. As players you try and get on with the job the best you can.
"We, as players, want the window to close now so we can get on with the squad that we've got and get on with business."
After early promise, Modric put in a sub-par performance at White Hart Lane on Sunday before being substituted with 25 minutes remaining.
The hammering against Roberto Mancini's men made it clear that reinforcements are needed at the north London club.
Brad Friedel and Emmanuel Adebayor have been the only arrivals of note at the club this summer, but manager Redknapp is keen to bring in three new faces before Wednesday night.
West Ham's Scott Parker is thought to be top of Redknapp's wishlist.
The England midfielder was left out of the Hammers' squad that beat Nottingham Forest on Sunday and is thought to want to move to White Hart Lane.
It is understood that Spurs and West Ham are still some way off finalising a deal for the 30-year-old though.
Despite hopes a deal could be done on Monday, it is likely that the transfer may be concluded on Tuesday or even on Wednesday - something which would not please Hammers boss Sam Allardyce, who has made it clear that he wants to sign a replacement for Parker as soon as possible.
Lassana Diarra's proposed to move to Tottenham could be in jeopardy after reports in Italy claimed Roma were close to signing the player.
Redknapp has admitted in the past that the Frenchman's wages could be a significant hurdle to any deal being completed.
Another possible arrival at the club is Craig Bellamy, who may move to Spurs in a similar deal to the one that saw Adebayor move to the club on loan from City.
Forward Rafael van der Vaart, meanwhile, has pulled out of Holland's squad to face San Marino and Finland after suffering a suspected hamstring tear in Sunday's defeat.

Nasri: Decided to join Man City
SAMIR NASRI - PSG WANTED ME

Manchester City midfielder Samir Nasri has revealed that he held discussions with Paris Saint-Germain about a potential move to the French giants this summer.
The 24-year-old, who joined Roberto Mancini's ambitious City from Arsenal last week, says that PSG's sporting director Leonardo, who coached Inter Milan in the second half of last season, wanted to sign him.
"I talked to Leonardo because he wanted me at Internazionale," Nasri told Telefoot. "(At PSG) the situation was a bit more complex because I told him about my choice for Manchester City.
"He had already signed (Javier) Pastore (from Palermo) and it was a little difficult (for them) to find funds to invest and be able to sign me."
Nasri, who played for French giants Marseille between 2004 and 2008, made his City debut on Sunday afternoon against Tottenham Hotspur and provided three assists in their 5-1 victory at White Hart Lane.

Jean Makoun: Moves to Olympiacos on loan
    MAKOUN MAKES GREEK MOVE

Jean Makoun has left Aston Villa to join Olympiacos on a season-long loan deal, the Premier League club have announced.
The 28-year-old Cameroon international joined Villa from Lyon for a fee in the region of 6million in January, but has failed to establish himself so far.
He made just seven appearances during the second half of last season, with a red card at Blackpool his most notable impact, while his only game to date this season came in the Carling Cup win over Hereford last week.
The midfielder, who has made 54 appearances for his country, is contracted to Villa until the summer of 2014.
Providing his move to the Greek champions is ratified by FIFA tomorrow, he will become available for Olympiakos' Champions League commitments against Arsenal, Marseille and Borussia Dortmund, as well as the Super League season which started at the weekend.

Weiss: Leaving Man City on loan
    WEISS HEADING TO ESPANYOL

Espanyol have reached an initial deal with Manchester City to take Vladimir Weiss on loan for the coming season, the Primera Division club announced on their website.
The 21-year-old Slovakia international, who has had loan spells at Bolton and Rangers during the last two years, has travelled to Barcelona this morning in a bid to put the finishing touches on the switch.
An Espanyol statement read: "Espanyol and Manchester City have reached an agreement in principle for the loan of Vladimir Weiss for one season."
If all goes to plan and the deal goes through, Weiss, who will link up with Slovakia this evening for the upcoming Euro 2012 qualifiers against Republic of Ireland and Armenia, will be presented next week following his international commitments.

    Mertesacker: In talks with Arsenal
    GUNNERS IN MERTESACKER TALKS

Arsenal were on Tuesday in talks with Werder Bremen over the signing of Germany defender Per Mertesacker, Press Association Sport understands.
The Gunners were also understood to be close to concluding a deal for Brazil left-back Andre Santos as they sought to revamp their defence following Sunday's humiliating 8-2 defeat at Manchester United.
The double signing would be music to the ears of Arsenal fans, who have long urged manager Arsene Wenger to strengthen a rearguard that has, at times, been left woefully exposed in the past year.
Mertesacker, 26, would also provide much-needed height and experience at the back, standing at 6ft 6in and boasting 75 international caps.
Arsenal have also agreed a fee with Turkish giants Fenerbahce - reportedly 6.2million - for Santos with the move subject to a medical and personal terms being agreed.
The 28-year-old would help fill the void left by the sale of Gael Clichy to Manchester City and the likely departure of Armand Traore to QPR.
South Korea captain Park Chu-Young was expected to complete his move from Monaco later today, while the Gunners have been linked with a host of other names ahead of tomorrow's transfer deadline, including Chelsea trio Florent Malouda, Alex and Yossi Benayoun.
They also last week saw a bid rejected for Bolton's Gary Cahill, a pursuit they may well abandon should a deal for Mertesacker be concluded.

    SANTON HAVING MAGPIES MEDICAL

Inter Milan full-back Davide Santon was on Tyneside on Tuesday morning to undergo a medical with a view to completing a move to Newcastle, Press Association Sport understands.
The 20-year-old headed for England after the two clubs agreed a fee, understood to be in the region of 5million, with the Magpies' search for a replacement for Jose Enrique nearing a conclusion.
Santon, who was described as "the new Paolo Maldini" earlier in his career, spent the second half of last season on loan at Cesena after falling out of favour at Inter, initially under former manager Jose Mourinho.
The news will provide a welcome boost for manager Alan Pardew, who has waited patiently for a breakthrough after finally having to admit defeat in his efforts to hang on to Enrique, who completed his switch to Liverpool during the final few days of the close season.
PSV Eindhoven's Erik Pieters and Lyon's Aly Cissokho were also high on his list of targets, but with the club refusing to budge on its valuations during tough negotiations, a series of frustrating impasses were reached.
However, Press Association Sport understands a deal was struck with Inter over the weekend and Santon, who was also reportedly a target for Roma, flew in this morning ready to commit his future to the Barclays Premier League outfit.
The Magpies hope to wrap up the transfer on Tuesday and then turn their attention fully to the search for a striker with Sochaux's Modibo Maiga still in their sights despite his return to action for the French club after a tense stand-off.
Newcastle have also been linked with a loan move for Manchester United frontman Federico Macheda as the scramble for reinforcements intensifies ahead of Wednesday night's transfer deadline.
Pardew's side has enjoyed a hugely encouraging start to the new Barclays Premier League campaign with a return of seven points from a possible nine to lie sixth in the table.
However, that has been achieved without last season's skipper Kevin Nolan and Enrique, and in the case of Sunday's 2-1 victory over Fulham, Joey Barton, who headed for promoted QPR late last week.
Disgruntled fans have waited less than patiently for owner Mike Ashley to placate them by investing in replacements - indeed, there were around 10,000 empty seats at St James' Park at the weekend.
It remains to be seen if the Magpies can secure Santon and the striker on which Pardew has set his heart, with the manager having indicated at the weekend that in an ideal world, he would also like a replacement for Barton and further cover at centre-back with Mike Williamson facing up to six weeks on the sidelines with an ankle problem.

    Van Bommel: Happy in Milan.
VAN BOMMEL REJECTS NEW MAN CITY BID

Holland midfielder Mark van Bommel claims Manchester City attempted to prise him away from AC Milan last week.
But the 34-year-old, who said City first made contact last season before returning in the past few days, has rejected their advances after insisting he is happy at the San Siro.
"City were one of the clubs that wanted me in the winter so it's not as though their interest has come from nowhere, but AC Milan have a very clear position and I can live with that," he told Voetbal International.
"I feel good as a footballer and I am appreciated here. And my family feels at home here."
The former PSV Eindhoven, Barcelona and Bayern Munich midfielder's agent Mino Raiola believes City wanted to sign him as cover for when the African Nations Cup gets under way in January.
"They have the problem that Yaya Toure will spend considerable time away at the African Nations Cup," he said.
"In addition, they know that Mark van Bommel works very well with Nigel de Jong."
Raiola repeated Van Bommel's claim that a move is out of the question, however.
"The message from AC Milan is clear. Mark van Bommel is not for sale under any circumstances."
