South Africa-based pay-TV operator SuperSport has broadened its supply of Ugandan sports with the on-screen addition of the culmination of the Nile Special Uganda Cup rugby tournament.

“The final will be in Jinja [for the second successive season]. The games from the semi-finals onwards will be live on SuperSport,” rugby manager Yayiro Kasasa is quoted as saying in the Daily Monitor, reporting from Uganda Rugby Union headquarters.

The move to show the knockout club rugby cup follows the pan-African satellite broadcaster’s recent deal to cover the nation’s top footballing action in the Uganda Super League (USL).

The Nile Special Uganda Cup, which involves 16 teams, begins this Saturday.

Meanwhile, the Naspers-owned broadcaster is gearing up for a 24-hour rugby extravaganza during the forthcoming Rugby World Cup in New Zealand, which begins on 9 September 2011. All 48 Rugby World Cup matches will be broadcast live and in high definition by SuperSports, as well as highlights packages with analysis, interviews and replays.

Video streaming, previews, live scores, and match reports will also be available on the broadcaster’s website, as well via its mobile TV Drifta service.
