Danish broadband provider Waoo! has embarked upon a major investment in its fibre network services to deliver new over-the-top (OTT) video services.
The company, which addresses 200,000 households, has selected and deployed RGBs to Waoo!’s OTT video offering. This marks its first web TV service and is designed to further establish the operator’s leading position in the Danish TV service market. This will add to its existing TV service of 190 TV channels, and Waoo! has plans to extend the service to 50 channels with four adaptive profiles for each channel.

To ensure a scalable multi-screen IP video delivery solution, Waoo! is utilising the Video Multiprocessing Gateway (VMG) and TransAct Packager TV Everywhere products from RGB Networks to roll out 36 channels streaming Microsoft Smooth Streaming adaptive format to PC-based consumers.

Working alongside the VMG, TransAct Packager delivers adaptive streaming capabilities, providing Waoo!’s customers with seamless video delivery by enabling the segmentation of video into chunks that are reliably delivered using HTTP. Deployment, from equipment delivery to live roll out, takes less than one month.

Explaining the company’s strategy, Aage Kudsk, CTO at Waoo!, said: “It’s clear to us that OTT services are the future of video delivery, and we wanted a solution that could implement our vision to provide cutting-edge TV services to our customers. Upon careful review and testing, we chose RGB for its flexible, high-quality video processing platform, which can be scaled up over time to meet customer demand ... we couldn’t be more satisfied with [the new ] solution and service.”

“We are very pleased to have helped facilitate Waoo!’s successful launch of its new OTT video service,” added Ramin Farassat, vice president, Product Marketing and Business Development for RGB Networks. “Waoo!’s business model, like that of any service provider, depends on meeting the needs of its customers today while planning for future growth.”
