An Internet connection is becoming a standard feature of consumer electronics (CE) in Germany, with 59% of all CE devices able to be hooked up to the Internet in the first half of 2011.
This share will increase at an accelerating speed, according to market research compiled by German industry association gfu. The total value of all connectable devices in Germany in 2010 amounted to almost €13 billion. This corresponds with a value share of 52% of the whole CE market. From 2010-2011 the value of all connectable devices is expected to grow by 26% to more than €16 billion.
Plenty of different devices contribute to this trend, including connected TV sets, Blu-ray players, home cinema receivers, portable Wi-Fi Internet radios, speakers, MP3 players, printers and digital cameras. The connectable devices segments currently experiencing the strongest growth are tablet-PCs and smartphones.
