The Rugby World Cup is to be broadcast live in Antarctica for the first time.

The scientists and support workers at Scott Base and McMurdo Station will be able to watch all 48 matches live, courtesy of Television New Zealand.

Mike Mahon, IT administrator for Antarctica NZ, said: “The crew here, and our friends from the nearby US McMurdo Station, are definitely looking forward to cheering on the teams at what promises to be a superb Rugby World Cup.''

The tournament, which kicks off on 9 September, will be broadcast in more than 200 territories.
