Acentic, a German supplier of broadband networks and interactive digital television for the hotel industry, will launch a new cloud-based distribution system for HD movies which will replace the current satellite feed.

From 30 September 2011, all content will be distributed to Acentic's hotel partners via Acentic Cloud Services. According to the Cologne-based company, the new solution will enable simplified, faster and more reliable content distribution with no geographical boundaries, allowing Acentic to expand its service into new territories not covered by the satellite.

The new content distribution network, which is based on Amazon AWS, will provide hoteliers with thousands of HD movies. Through the virtual storage solution, they can share content with each other, significantly reducing transmission costs.

"Exactly 10 years ago in September 2001, Acentic evolved from VHS tapes to satellite transmission for movies and further services to hotel customers. A decade later, we reach another milestone in hotel technology innovation by moving to the cloud", said Richard Robinson, CEO of Acentic. "With the opening of our new office in Asia, the cloud allows us to expand our reach to Asia and further geographic markets with rapid worldwide content transmission."

Acentic Cloud Services will initially focus on movie distribution. The company plans to gradually extend its cloud transmission to cover more services including high-speed internet access, mobile apps and system support.

Acentic's clients include international chains such as Accor, Dorint, Hilton, Hyatt, InterContinental Hotels Group, Maritim, Marriott, Movenpick and Starwood in more than 30 countries in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
