Austrian pay-TV platform AustriaSat has launched an HDTV package on 7 September 2011. HD Austria contains commercial free-to-air channels Sat.1 Österreich HD, ProSieben Austria HD, kabel eins austria HD, Puls 4 HD, Nickelodeon HD/Comedy Central HD and N24 HD.

RTL II, RTL II HD and VOX HD will be added shortly. According to AustriaSat, carriage negotiations are also underway with ATV.

As it is the case with the HDTV platform HD+ for satellite households in Germany, Austrian DTH viewers have to pay a reception fee for the HD versions of the commercial channels. They will continue to be available free-of-charge in standard definition.

HD Austria (http://www.hdaustria.at) is available for €49.90 per year with a contract period of 12 month. If a viewer prefers to retain the option to cancel the subscription any month, then the package costs €6.90 per month. The offering can be tested 3 months free-of-charge,

For reception of the bouquet, which is transmitted on Astra (19.2° East), viewers need an HD flat-screen TV set as well as an HD receiver or a CI+ module compliant with the Irdeto conditional access system in addition to the ORF Digital smartcard.

"The HD Austria package is an ideal complement to our line-up," said Olaf Castritius, vice-president of operating company M7 Group. "I remain confident that we will be able to reach our target of winning 100,000 customers within the next 3 years."
