According to a European round-up of the DTT market released by NPA Conseil, has found that digital terrestrial television dominates in three out of the five main countries, namely France, Italy and Spain.

In these countries, DTT’s has a respective coverage rate of 90%, 81% and 98%, and reaches penetration rates of 62% in France, 71% in Italy and 79% in Spain.

Adoption is more limited in the UK (39.9 % of penetration, for 92.5 % of coverage) and in Germany (11.3%, 90%).

In June 2011, 16 European countries went fully digital, and this number will reach 20 by the end of the year. NPA adds that the average penetration rate amounts to 53% in Europe.

Most of the DTT operators develop full-programming schedules, or news and kids channels. Italy distinguishes itself with the launch of 6 sport channels, while UK owns 6 tele-shopping channels.

The DTT channels add revenues amounting to €62 billion in the five key countries, NPA estimates.
