Robben: Keen to extend his stay at Bayern Munich
    NO ROBBEN TALKS IMMINENT

Bayern Munich director of football Christian Nerlinger insists the club will not open contract talks with Arjen Robben until at least December.
The 27-year-old Dutch international has become a key figure at the Allianz Arena since signing from Real Madrid in a 22million move in 2009.
The former Chelsea winger's current deal expires in 2013 and he has previously expressed a desire to extend his stay with the Bundesliga giants.
Bayern are equally keen to tie Robben down to a new deal but Nerlinger insists the club have no imminent plans to open talks with the player, instead choosing to focus on their upcoming domestic and European campaigns.
"We have no concrete schedule to pick up contract talks with Arjen," said Nerlinger.
"We are just focusing on the sporting aspects at this very moment. Usually we are going to dig into contract talks during the time of December."

Rio Ferdinand: Will not be risked in Lisbon
RIO FERDINAND TO MISS BENFICA CLASH

Rio Ferdinand will miss Manchester United's opening Champions League game against Benfica in Lisbon on Wednesday.
Ferdinand was not in the 19-man squad that flew to Portugal on Tuesday morning, meaning United were without their first-choice central defensive pairing as Nemanja Vidic is currently missing with a calf problem.
There was no place either for Federico Macheda or Mame Biram Diouf, who scored twice for the reserves in their win over Fulham on Monday night, but Jonny Evans and Patrice Evra shrugged off hip and knee knocks picked up at Bolton on Saturday.
It is not thought Ferdinand has suffered a fresh injury. However, after making his first appearance in a month during the 5-0 romp at the Reebok, and with Chelsea due at Old Trafford on Sunday, Sir Alex Ferguson is not wanting to take any chances with the 32-year-old, whose fitness record has been patchy over the past few years.
With Ferdinand out, it is likely to mean a move into central defence for Phil Jones, outstanding at full-back on Saturday, who would be making his debut in the competition.
Michael Owen, fresh from watching his horse Brown Panther finish second in the St Leger, was also named, although if changes are made to Ferguson's attacking line-up, last season's joint Golden Boot winner, Dimitar Berbatov, would appear to have more of a claim.
Ferguson has suggested he will rely on experience, which could be good news for Darren Fletcher, Park Ji-sung and Ryan Giggs, who have been reduced to peripheral roles so far this term.
The United boss must also decide whether to hand Anders Lindegaard his competitive debut, or stick with David de Gea, who has been steadily improving after a shaky start to his Red Devils career.
It is less than four months since Ferguson's team were put in their place by Barcelona in the final at Wembley.
However, as comprehensive as that defeat was, Michael Carrick refuses to beat himself up about it.
"The Champions League final doesn't still hurt," said the 30-year-old.
"It was disappointing because we lost the final but it wasn't a massive failure.
"I haven't watched it again. I went on my holidays and focused on this season.
"You have to accept they were good. It is up to us to be better."

    Michael Dawson: Achilles problem
MICHAEL DAWSON FACES TWO MONTHS OUT

Tottenham defender Michael Dawson is set to be sidelined for at least two months due to an Achilles injury.
Dawson picked up the problem in training and played no part in Spurs' 2-0 victory away to Wolves in the Premier League on Saturday.
It is now understood that he will not be able to return to action until the middle of November at the earliest, meaning he will miss a crucial chunk of the season.
Dawson has become an integral figure in the back four at White Hart Lane under Harry Redknapp, establishing himself as an almost ever-present in the absence through injury of other players such as Jonathan Woodgate and Ledley King.
Redknapp must now reorganise his defence over the next couple of months as Tottenham contend with a Europa League campaign as well as their domestic demands.
With Woogate having been let go during the summer and Spurs missing out on a deal for Bolton's Gary Cahill, Redknapp is facing a selection headache.
William Gallas and Vedran Corluka also missed the clash with Wolves due to injury, although Ledley King made a welcome return to partner Younes Kaboul at the heart of defence.
Redknapp also has fitness concerns in other positions and has admitted he is down to the bare bones of his squad ahead of Thursday's trip to PAOK Salonika in the Europa League.

    Lansbury: New Gunners deal
    NEW GUNNERS DEAL FOR LANSBURY

Henri Lansbury has signed a contract extension with Arsenal.
The 20-year-old midfielder is currently on loan at West Ham, scoring for the Npower Championship side in their 4-3 win over Portsmouth at the weekend.
England Under-21 international Lansbury had a successful loan spell at Norwich last season, helping the Canaries secure promotion to the Barclays Premier League.

Halliche: Still waiting for his loan move to be ratified
    SWANS IN DARK OVER DUO

Swansea have revealed they are still waiting to find out when they will be cleared to play new signings Rafik Halliche and Darnel Situ.
The Premier League new boys agreed deals to sign Halliche on loan and French midfielder Situ on transfer deadline day.
However, Swansea have yet to find out if Fifa have officially sanctioned the deals leaving both players in limbo.
Swansea have not given up hope that the pair could still be available to make their debuts against West Brom this weekend but chairman Huw Jenkins revealed he is growing increasingly frustrated at the situation.
"We are hoping to get some information on the two signings very soon," Jenkins told the South Wales Evening Post.
"This situation is not ideal, and we just want to know one way or the other now.
"This is an issue that we've been discussing for a long time - the fact that in some cases, like the Fulham transfer, we get discriminated against.
"When we are trying to complete deals for players, we have to go through additional processes that other clubs in our league do not because any transfer between England and Wales is viewed as an international transfer."

    Defoe: Praise for Adebayor
    DEFOE RELISHING ADEBAYOR LINK-UP

Jermain Defoe believes he and Emmanuel Adebayor can form a strong strike partnership that will help Tottenham avoid the goalscoring problems that troubled them last season.
Spurs' poor scoring record in the league cost them a place in this year's Champions League, with Defoe, Roman Pavlyuchenko and Peter Crouch finding the net just 18 times last season.
Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp sought to remedy that problem by replacing Crouch with Adebayor and the move paid immediate dividends when the Togolese marksman scored on his debut in Spurs' 2-0 win at Wolves on Saturday.
Defoe, who netted just four Barclays Premier League goals last term, was also on the scoresheet at Molineux with a clinical finish from inside the box after losing his marker.
The England international now hopes he can build up a good relationship with Adebayor to help him keep scoring and also revealed that he was desperate for the former Arsenal man to join when he was first linked with the London club this summer.
"He is brilliant. I was looking forward to it (playing with him) even before he came," Defoe told Spurs TV Online.
"There was a lot of speculation that he was coming and I just thought to myself 'please let it happen' because he's a great player.
"He's quick, he can head it, he is strong and he is a good finisher.
"He can do everything. Him being there freed me up a bit because it allowed me to drop deep, get on the ball and beat players so it was good."
Defoe had to wait until March to score his first league goal of last season after being dogged by loss of form and fitness, but he is sure this season will be a different story.
"I have a had a good pre-season. Last year I didn't get one so that made it difficult," he said.
"If you put the work in pre-season you will have a good season. I just want to keep working hard and I know I will get more goals."
After two heavy defeats to Manchester United and neighbours City, Saturday's win at Wolves was exactly what Redknapp and his squad needed.
The long-running transfer saga concerning Luka Modric and Chelsea also disrupted the squad's early-season form, but club captain Ledley King thinks their troubled start is now behind them.
"All the deals have been done. We have our team now and I suppose it's a case of just getting on with it," King said.
"There is no chance to wonder if anyone else is coming here or if anyone is leaving now. We have our squad now and we are settled. I think that showed on Saturday."
The club now face a testing spell in which they will play PAOK Salonika, Liverpool and Stoke within a six-day period.
Matters have been made worse by an Achilles injury to Michael Dawson which could reportedly rule him out for two months.
There has been no official confirmation of how long the defender expects to be out for, but the injury is understood to be a long-term one.
Should he miss the next two months, it will be a cruel blow for the England man as he spent three months out with a similar injury last term.
His loss will also be felt by the team. William Gallas is 10 days away from full fitness with a calf complaint, Vedran Corluka missed Saturday's win through injury and King's chronic knee problems mean he will only be able to play one of the three upcoming fixtures.
King, who has been told by Redknapp that he needs to play 20 games this year to earn a new contract, was playing his first game of the season on Saturday after having an operation on his knee this summer.
He was relieved to get through Saturday's win at Molineux unscathed.
"I came through okay," said the 30-year-old.
"I just cramped up at the end a bit but that's normal."

Dorrans: Desperate to keep his starting place at West Brom
    DORRANS EYES FIRST TEAM SPOT

Graham Dorrans is aiming for a regular spot in the West Brom first team after making his first start of the season last weekend.
The 24-year-old had missed the final ten games of last season after suffering an ankle injury in training at the start of March.
The Scotland international has already played in the Carling Cup and made two league appearances from the bench this season, but Sunday's game at Norwich marked his first Premier League start for the Baggies since a 1-1 draw with Stoke in February.
Dorrans is delighted to have finally made it back onto the pitch and is now bidding to keep hold of his place in the Baggies starting XI.
"I haven't had many minutes this season but hopefully I've got myself fit and I can stay in the side," Dorrans told the club's official website.

"I had a bad injury and I'm still working on that to get it stronger. I need to get myself that little bit fitter and that little bit sharper.
"But it was my first game back in the Premier League so hopefully I can keep improving and getting fitter and get 90 minutes in.
"You only get match fit by playing matches and that's what I want to do.
"I think I did okay at Norwich but there is a lot of competition for places and everyone will be chomping at the bit to get back in.
"But hopefully I've done enough to keep my place."

Balzaretti: Heading to Paris next season
    BALZARETTI SET FOR PSG SWITCH

Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini says full-back Federico Balzaretti will join Paris Saint-Germain next season.
Balzaretti has been linked with a move to the French giants ever since Leonardo's appointment as general manager at PSG earlier this summer.
"Federico asked me to be transferred to PSG and I would like to make him happy," said Zamparini. "Leonardo has already asked me about signing him for some time but I told him that, until the end of the season, he will remain with us.
"Meanwhile, we will begin to search for his replacement."
The Italy international joined Palermo from Fiorentina in 2008 and is under contract with the Sicilians for a further two years.
