In what could be a key boost to Microsoft’s efforts to become a credible player in the smartphone space, Sky News launched a new pp for the Windows Phone platform.
Mobility is a hugely important play for Sky and already over four million people have now downloaded Sky News mobile applications, via, the iPhone and iPad and a variety of Android smartphones and tablets. The app, available free of charge, has been developed in partnership with Microsoft, and combines all of Sky News’ content within the unique vernacular of the Windows Phone user interface.
Fundamentally the app allows users to watch live Sky News on their mobile, stay up to date with breaking national and international news and send stories direct from their phone to the newsroom. Also on offer will be the latest news feeds in both video and text format including live TV, video bulletins, a ‘Your Report’ feature and, crucially for news outlets, in-built Facebook and Twitter article sharing
Commented James Weeks, Executive Producer, Sky News Interactive, commented: “This app merges all the best bits of our brand, design and content with the look and feel of Windows Phone. We are delighted with the development of this product and believe it further demonstrates Sky News’ commitment to provide content to ever-growing news platforms. “
Added Nick Hedderman, Head of Consumer Marketing, Windows Phone UK, added: “Seeing Sky News’ great news content brought to life for mobile phone users by the unique Windows Phone user interface is very exciting.”
