Indonesia's professional football league, PT Liga Prima Indonesia, has signed a partnership deal with Malaysian TV content provider Broadway Media.

The deal gives Broadway Media Malaysia broadcasting rights to Liga Prima matches, for pay TV viewers in Malaysia and Brunei Darussalam.

Indonesian Soccer Association chairman Djohar Arifin said: “This is a historic agreement. This is the first time that the [Indonesian] professional league will be officially screened in Malaysia.”

Djohar added that he hoped the deal could help improve relations between the two countries through soccer.

Malaysian Youth and Sports Minister Dato` Sri Ahmad Shabery Cheek added: “Soccer is not just a sport but has become an industry, and the fastest growing content is sport."

Broadway Media will start broadcasting matches in October on two Indonesian language channels, Pelangi and Bintang.
