Oman has a new private TV channel in the guise of Indian channel JaiHind TV, which has been franchised for broadcast in Oman by Muscat Film Production and Distribution Company, according to local reports.
JaiHind TV, which was launched in Muscat is a Malayalam channel based in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. Established in August 2007, it is promoted by the Indian National Congress Party, and funded by supporters living overseas.
In the Gulf Sultanate, it now joins state channels Oman TV and Oman TV 2, and Majan TV – Oman’s first private television channel, which is run by Halley Media City and available via Nilesat.
The guest list of JaiHind’s launch party in Muscat included Ramesh Chennithala, president, Jai Hind TV and KPCC president; M M Hassan, managing director, Jai Hind TV; Indian Member of Parliament P T Thomas; and Anil Wadhwa India’s ambassador to Oman, along with popular Malayalam actor Jagathy Sreekumar – according to the Oman Observer.
“JaiHind has captured the hearts, minds and imagination of TV viewers across the world and it is all set to showcase the presence in Oman,” Oommen Chandy, Chief Minister of Kerala is reported as saying by Oman Observer. “I am sure it will repeat the success story it has achieved so far and will create a positive impact on the socio-cultural scene.”
Salim bin Saleem al Busaidy is managing director of JaiHind TV in Oman, while Sebastian K Jose, Murugesan N and Kuriakose M are directors of the channel, according to the report.
