American pay-TV operator DirecTV Latin America has joined forces with Venezuela's broadcaster Venevision and the Miss Venezuela Organisation to broadcast Miss Venezuela.
Despite being on the wane elsewhere in the world, Miss Venezuela is actually one of the most popular beauty contests and the new deal is a coup for Grupo Cisneros who owns Venevision and the Miss Venezuela Organisation.
The event will be broadcast live and in HD across all DirecTV territories in Latin America for the first time and only for DirecTV HD's subscribers.
This broadcast will become a milestone in the history of Venezuela because it is the first time that a local show will be entirely produced and broadcast in HDTV, according to its managers.
"This agreement is the result of tireless efforts made by executives from all of the parties involved in the negotiation: DirecTV, Venevision International, the Miss Venezuela Organisation and Venevision. Equally important is the devoted work of hundreds of technical and production staff that will make the live broadcast for all of Latin America come true," said César Día, sales VP at Venevision International.
