US television broadcaster Turner Broadcasting System (TBS) will increase its TV offering in Germany: A local version of Glitz will launch in 2012 with Cartoon Network and Boomerang to get HD simulcasts.
Women's channel Glitz will be available on the digital pay-TV platform of Germany's largest cable operator Kabel Deutschland. Carriage negotiations with further platform providers are underway, according to TBS Germany.
After TNT Film, TNT Serie, Cartoon Network and Boomerang Glitz will be the fifth pay-TV channel the subsidiary of US media company Time Warner will operate in Germany.
The channel, which has been offered in Latin America since May 2011, will show international series, movies and documentaries as well as original productions tailor-made for the German market covering topics such as fashion, lifestyle, cooking, country life and celebrities.
The 24 hour service carrying the motto "Hier scheint die Sonne" ("The sun shines here") will be transmitted in 16:9 widescreen format both in conventional and high definition (HDTV). All programmes will be offered with German and English language soundtracks, if available.
Furthermore, TBS Germany will simulcast its two children's and family channels in HDTV in future: Cartoon Network HD will launch in October 2012, Boomerang HD will follow in 2013. The first carriage partner will be Kabel Deutschland.
