Lithuania now expects to complete its transition to digital broadcasting on October 29, 2012.

The news was given by Rimvydas Vastakas, the vice minister of the country’s ministry of transport and communications, quoted in an agency report.

Vastakas also called for subsidised set-top boxes to be made available to the less able members of society, as well as a holding company to inform people of the changes.

Following ASO, Lithuanian viewers will be able to watch a minimum of 12 DTT channels.

A DTT service is currently operated in Lithuania by the incumbent telco TEO LT.

Known as Digital Gala TV, it offers around 40 channels to at least 67,000 subscribers
