UK broadcast and telecoms regulator Ofcom has confirmed that nine months before analogue switch off, more than half of UK homes have now completed the move to digital-only TV.

In all 17 million, 63%, of UK homes have now gone through the switchover process and Ofcom says that the majority landmark was passed when over four million households in the West Midlands, Yorkshire, Stoke-on-Trent and Newcastle-under-Lyme completed the switch to all-digital TV.

This now leaves only four UK regions— London, the south of England, the north east of England and Northern Ireland—to make the switch. This move is timetabled for early 2012.
